As a lifelong lego and Space Battleship Yamato fan this purchase was a no brainer. I’ve had good experiences with some other chinese brick sets, so I hoped for another. Unfortunately this set has some major flaws and I cannot recommend it for anyone but a very experienced adult builder.Firstly, the instructions are a PDF accessible by scanning a QR code on a card. The instructions were clearly auto generated by a computer, so they sometimes are illogical and even ask you to make connections in an impossible order, so you actually have to take something apart to make the connection. Worst of all, the new pieces in each step are all colored pink, so if you are supposed to add pieces of different colors you can’t tell which are which. It makes working through the instructions a real chore to figure out.The brick quality is not as good as some clone bricks I have gotten, but it’s not terrible. I found no misshapen bricks, and most of them snapped together properly, but some of the smaller pieces were inconsistent. Some fit well and some made loose connections. I was also short one small piece which I replaced with spares from another chinese brick set. Probably the most frustrating flaw is that they apparently ran out of the correct color for some pieces which make up the bow bulb and small engines, so they replaced those pieces with gray. There’s a note at the beginning of the instructions telling you which pieces were switched to gray. This completely ruins the look of the model because the swapped pieces are mostly major design elements in the red lower hull. Now being a long time builder I easily sourced the right color bricks in real Lego from bricklink for a few bucks, but most people wouldn’t want to make that added effort.Lastly, the actual structure of the model has a few flaws. You build the top, bottom, and sides all separately. The sides have a connection running the length of the model which is very weak. The pieces want to snap off their base when lateral pressure is applied, which you have to do to attach the sides. It was extremely difficult to get the sides attached and involved me modifying the design a little. It was frustrating for me with my experience and modifications, I can’t imagine someone less experienced trying to do it. Lastly, the model doesn’t come with a stand and it cannot be completed and displayed without one because of the antennas and third bridge elements attached to the bottom. So I had to build my own stand.With all that said, the final model with my corrections and modifications looks awesome, a really cool display piece in my office. I just can’t possibly recommend it to anyone who isn’t prepared to go through the hassle of figuring out the instructions and design flaws and replacing the miscolored pieces.
