I live on Oahu so good surf apparel is important (even for the keiki), these are authentic board shorts for a 4-year old. He’s average height for a 4-year old. They are great. If I could make any adjustments, I would make them tighten with the strings. The strings are fixed and can’t adjust at the waist so the fit is what you get (they have elastic on the back side so it helps some). And, I will end up cutting out the inside netting…it usually gives my kids rashes around the legs with the salt water (we are in the ocean a lot). But ultimately these are great little shorts and my little guy loves them, he’s surf ready. Aloha.9.5 year old. 54in tall (62%) and 65lbs (50%). He is slender with no belly or chunk at all.I searched high and low for an interestingly patterned neon swim suit for our son (he did not want a plain color). We are very water safety conscious and know that neon suits are the most easily seen from underwater in both dark natural waters and clear pools. We also did not want any mesh lining as those can cause issues.He is a typically sized kiddo and while I was looking for a size 10, one was not available when we needed it. I bought both the 8 and 12 to see which would fit best. I am so glad I got the 8 because it is still a bit loose on him even though he has a 24in waist. The waist is not adjustable at all and anything bigger would be falling off of him, especially in waves and on water slides. Both pairs we received are the exact pattern in the picture except there is no purple at the top. I included pictures of the tags for both sizes that show the inseam length. It does sit right above the knee. We like the suit so much that we have decided to keep the size 12 as well and he'll grow into it eventually.For anyone that is also all about sun safety, we purchased the Amazon Essentials boys' short-sleeved rash guard in the neon green and it matches perfectly.We bought 5 name brand board shorts for our son and these by far are my fav! They fit TTS and are even cuter in person! Perfect length, not too long or short. The only issue is they don’t have a tightening strap inside so if you’re little one is between sizes, def size downRuns a bit big, but overall great product.They run big and the waist doesn’t cinch. If your little guy has a thin waist get a smaller size than you normally would.Run just a tad big but they look really cute.Cute but a little priceyMy son is a size 18 and these fit perfectly
